About my battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL), a subtype of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL).

It’s been a challenging road since the beginning of 2024. What started as swelling in my lymph nodes, quickly turned into tumors in my face, throat, and near my heart, causing difficulty breathing and swallowing Now, my bone marrow is also invaded. This is life threatening,  leaving me with debilitating, pains, fatigue and susceptibility to infections as well as rapid weight loss.

After a series of tests and treatments, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma stage 4 in August 2024. I have undergone chemotherapy (I’ve done 4 out of 10 sessions) and immunotherapy. Next week, I must undergo an urgent surgery to remove the tumor, which should ease the pain and stop the cancer from spreading further. This will be followed by two more surgeries (close to my heart and bone marrow).

I am fighting hard to survive this dreaded disease. Unfortunately, with all the treatments in the past year, my family and I have exhausted our medical aid funds, savings and even kids’ college fund. More challenging was that my husband also suffered a debilitating illness which left him bedridden for the past few months. We are both fighting hard to live for our children. More especially the little baby who is turning 2 years on the day of my surgery.
